I used to make a Pennsylvania Dutch recipe called Shoofly Pie which is basically a dark molasses custard topped with crumb cake in a pie crust ( Sean Platt's daughter would love it.)My older kids recognized it as a treat we had not had for a while but my 3 year old son took one look at the shiney dark interior and said "eewhh! Dog lip pie!" We all cracked up as we realized his connection at eye level with our Sharpei included an intimate view of a shiney black wet dog mouth coomon to some breeds. It indeed bears a resemblance to a 1" thick wedge of Shoofly Pie, thereafter known in our house as Doglip pie. Thanks for the great memory spot.

My kids are not especially adventurous eaters, and recently I encouraged my 6 year-old son, Gavin, to try the fresh green beans I'd served with dinner.

He finally gave in to my pressure and said: "Well, let me try some of the "delicious" green beans...", complete with the air quotes around the word "delicious".

Gotta love 'em. I don't have any food related statements from my 4 year old (that I can remember) but I'm sure one will pop up sooner or later. I've just started a similar blog to yours to record the things Isabelle says and Does. I'm sure our kids will love us in years to come when they can look back at the loony things they've come out with. I'm going to pop a link to your site on my new blog if you don't mind.

I'll pop back to see what else your kids say :)

My daughter, when she was about five I think, was trying to decide what she liked better between cake and pie. She said, "Well, I really like pie and I really like cake. Is there any kind of pie that has cake for filling?"

I do my grocery shopping online and ordered a brand of chicken pie I'd never had before. You don't really know what you're getting when you buy your shopping this way but you have to try new things, don't you? It looked fine when I put it into the oven. It looked fine when I took it out of the oven. But when I tried to slice it to serve it, it deflated and flooded my kitchen worktop. It was basically gravy in pastry!

Soup pie for me too! :-)
